October Music Mailout: Dino Bird Music, MCCPxFG at Netherworld, Electric Violin, and more...
Here’s the October Edition of my monthly-ish email blast - posted here on the blog, because things exist a bit more when they’re on the internet.
Hello Friends!
Until we start getting our music piped directly into our brains via corporate AI, the responsibility rests on me, a music maker, to tell you, friends, listeners, fellow artists, about my music. As a humble and possibly naive protest against the horrors of commercial social media, I once again turn to my medium of choice, email, to shamelessly blast you with a bunch of Stuff About Me.
For those of you who've more recently tuned in, this mailing list was established as an alternative to spamming you all on social media, which I’ve come to see as problematic for a range of reasons. I’m only interested in sending emails to people who want to read them, so if that’s not you, please accept my warmest encouragement to reply “unsubscribe”.
And if there’s something here that might interest someone you know, they are probably not going to see it on Insta, so please consider forwarding the email.

/ NEW NONSEMBLE MUSIC OUT NOW
The two first singles from Nonsemble’s new album Archaeopteryx are out! Like the rest of the album, they foreground the string quartet juxtaposed with electronic beats and synths, and are named after prehistoric birds.
“Argentavis”, a majestic slow-build, and “Phorusrhacos”, an angular study in layers, are both available to buy and stream now. Each is accompanied by a superb remix, from Madeleine Cocolas and MJ O’Neill respectively.
Only a few weeks now until the album is out! Follow us on Bandcamp so you get notified when it's released.
Also, put December 2 in your diary - we’ll be launching the album and celebrating our 10th anniversary at It’s Still a Secretin South Brisbane with special guests Shugorei and more to be announced!

// MAGIC CITY COUNTERPOINT SINGLE AND SHOW
In partnership with amazing game designers Fuzzy Ghost, we are putting on a little thing at Netherworld Arcade on Sunday November 27, 3pm. Join us to celebrate the release of Fuzzy Ghost’s award-winning Queer Man Peering Into a Rock Pool.jpg and the launch of Magic City Counterpoint’s first single, "Fern Bells" (which is incidentally part of the game soundtrack).
Magic City Counterpoint is a brand new electronic project I have been working on with Madeleine Cocolas, and we can't wait to finally share this music with you.

/// A STOLEN SATELLITE / VÉRONIQUE SERRET
World-renowned violinist Véronique Serret is releasing an album of six-string electric violin & electronics called PRIMA VOLTA. For a violin album, it’s pretty rock ’n’ roll. I’m very honoured that a piece that I wrote for Véronique a few years back, A Stolen Satellite, has been included on the album. It also features a bunch of great new compositions and appearances by didgeridoo legend William Barton.
The album is out through Corella Recordings on Oct 12 (next week!). You can follow Véronique on Bandcamp to get notified when it’s out, and it’ll be available to stream and purchase physically as well.

//// OTHER HAPPENINGS
Here are some cool things that have nothing to do with me but that I think you might like to know about:
Dots+Loops Nonstop is on at the Tivoli on Sunday, December 18! As usual, the line-up is wildly eclectic, musically exceptional, and full of surprises. It’s super exciting to see Dots+Loops in a gorgeous venue like the Tivoli. Highly recommended!
Brisbane cellist and singer/songwriter Monique Clare keeps drip-feeding amazing singles, and the newest, “House the Hurt” is also excellent. Her album is out later this month and is going to be amazing.
The inexhaustible 4000 Records has released a new compilation called House Keys, featuring SE-QLD artists covering SE-QLD artists, and it’s a really fun and enjoyable listen. It’s also a great jumping off point for new musical discoveries, in both the artists doing the covers and the songs being covered.

Thanks for making it to the bottom of this edition of my monthly-ish info blast! As usual, reply “unsubscribe” if you’re not keen, and forward to your friends if you think they might be into it.
Wishing you all the very, very best.
