This is a live recording of me rehearsing at home for a live performance. All sounds are played/triggered/manipulated/mixed live. This is the stereo output with no post-production (albeit after a whole bunch of takes!).
I'me pretty new to performing electronic music live without any backing tracks or structural pre-programming, so this has been an exercise in getting used to playing on this particular setup and feeling out the possibilities. I’m really enjoying this way of making music though, and looking forward to getting better and more fluent with the gear.
There are a handful of pre-programmed midi sequences in Ableton which I’m triggering in real time, and I’m working with a pre-programmed pattern on the Electribe as well. All the drums and the arp synths come from that single Electribe pattern, and are manipulated in real time. The ambient chords and later big lead synth comes from Thumbjam on the iPad, and is played live. I have it set up so that pitch is on X-Axis and volume/cutoff is on Y, which allows me to use the same patch for really different sounds. And there are some live-looped vocal “ah"s at the end which are heavily processed and end up being mainly textural.
